Ex-lawmaker starts job in juvenile justice

Former state Rep. Gus Barreiro, the lawmaker who led the charge to shut down boot camps after the death of Martin Lee Anderson, will start a new job Monday at the Department of Juvenile Justice.

New department Secretary and former House member Frank Peterman has hired Barreiro as the new chief of residential operations and quality improvement.

Barreiro said his first task will be to tour residential juvenile justice programs and make recommendations.
