The meeting was called to order by Florida’s Chief Inspector General, Melinda Miguel, who introduced her fellow Committee members, Florida Department of Financial Services Inspector General Tom Kirwin, and Bonnie Deering, Inspector General for the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation.
Ms. Miguel explained that a recruitment advertisement for Citizens’ Inspector General has been posted and will close for applicants on July 19, 2013.
Charles Johnson, Vice President of Human Capital Management with Citizens, pointed out that all applications received for the position will be forwarded to the Committee. So far, 35 applications have been received. Mr. Johnson said that he expected more before the advertisement closes.
The Committee reviewed the proposed screening criteria for applicants. The advertised criteria are those included in CS/SB 1770, which created the Inspector General position.
Members also discussed the preferred qualifications, subsequently adopting the screening criteria.
The Committee will meet again on July 30, 2013 to review applications and select candidates for interviews. The dates of August 5-9 and August 12, 15 and 16 have been designated to conduct public interviews and select a candidate.
The Committee plans to hold a “closeout” meeting on September 4, 2013 and its final meeting on September 16, 2013.
