Florida Surplus Lines Service Office to Offer Free Continuing Education Course to Florida-Licensed Surplus Lines Agents–‘A Five-Year Outlook on Regulatory and Disciplinary Trends’

Mar 1, 2013

The FSLSO has scheduled a continuing education series beginning in April 2013 that will take an in-depth look into the forces shaping Florida’s surplus lines market, including marketplace trends, regulatory issues and disciplinary actions.

The class is free for Florida-licensed surplus lines agents and $60 for all others.  This course has been approved by the Florida Department of Financial Services for three hours of intermediate property and casualty credit (Course ID: 83393).

“The Florida Surplus Lines Market:  A Five-Year Outlook on Regulatory and Disciplinary Trends” is a three-hour property and casualty course designed to educate surplus lines agents on the important of compliance through the identification of common agent violations of the Florida Insurance Code as found in the Florida Statutes and Florida Administrative Code.

This “lessons learned” approach emphasizes agent compliance with the laws through an analysis of trends, examples and case studies as seen through the disciplinary actions taken by the Florida Department of Financial Services and the FSLSO.

“Our goal for this course is to look at the lessons learned by others in order to provide our students with a thorough understanding of the nuances of the Insurance Code and the necessity for compliance,” commented Tom Terfinko, Assistant Director of Agent and Insurer Services.  “This is a great course for surplus lines agents as it gives the attendee an in-depth look at the compliance requirements placed on licensees as well as the consequences of non-compliance.”

All offerings of this class will begin at 9:00 a.m. and last until 12:00 p.m.

Early registration is encouraged, inasmuch as space is limited and classes fill quickly.  Registration can be done online by visiting: http://www.fslso.com/education/
