Florida Senate Issue Brief: Florida Division of Insurance Fraud Advocates Greater Criminal Penalties for Convicted Public Adjusters
Oct 15, 2010
In the Florida Senate’s 2010 Interim Project Issue Brief on Public Adjusters published this week (October 15) the Florida Division of Insurance Fraud concludes that greater penalties for public adjusters who are convicted of a crime would provide a greater deterrent to related fraud.
The Senate also reports that insurance industry representatives and public adjusters alike have urged the Florida Department of Financial Services to exercise greater oversight and enforcement against fraudulent claims. The Florida Association of Public Adjusters has even recommended an increase in their members’ own licensing fees, which would be earmarked for enforcement and prosecution against unscrupulous public adjusters.
