Jan 23, 2009

Today, January 23, 2008, the Florida Legislature’s Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability (OPPAGA) published a U.S. Department of Justice report detailing 2005 Juvenile Court statistics.

The report, which can be viewed by clicking here, describes delinquency cases handled between 1985 and 2005 and petitioned status offense cases handled between 1995 and 2005 by U.S. courts with juvenile jurisdiction.

Courts with juvenile jurisdiction may handle a variety of matters, including child abuse and neglect, traffic violations, child support, and adoptions. This report focuses on cases involving juveniles charged with law violations (delinquency or status offenses).

The data used in the analyses was contributed to the National Juvenile Court Data Archive by more than 2,100 courts with jurisdiction over 80 percent of the juvenile population in 2005.
