Florida Office of Insurance Regulation To Host October 21 Catastrophic Risk and Florida Insurance Market Symposium at NAIC Fall 2010 National Meeting

In concurrence with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners Fall 2010 National Meeting in Orlando, Florida, the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (“OIR”) will host an October 21 Public Symposium on catastrophic risk and strategies for stabilizing, improving and growing Florida’s private insurance marketplace. 

From 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Gaylord Palms Resort, OIR Chief Economist Ray Spudeck will convene thought leaders from the academic community, as well as those directly involved in the underwriting and financing of catastrophic risk in Florida.

Topics slated to be explored during the Symposium include:

  • Rates, rating laws and the insurance contract
  • Reinsurance capacity, stability and alternative risk transfer techniques
  • Role of the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund and Citizens Property Insurance Corporation
  • The state of, and outlook for, the residential and commercial property insurance markets
