Florida NFIP Policyholders Now Have Until January 31, 2017 to File A Flood Insurance Claim Associated with Hurricane Hermine

At the request of Florida Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (“FEMA”) has granted another extension giving National Flood Insurance Program (“NFIP”) policyholders in Florida an extra 30 days (until January 31, 2017) to file claims associated with Hurricane Hermine. The previous extension was set to expire on December 31, 2016.
NFIP policyholders typically have 60 days to file a proof of loss claim with their insurance company following the initial date of loss. With this latest extension, Florida NFIP policyholders will have received a total of 150 days to make a claim for flooding damages sustained as a result of Hurricane Hermine.
