Florida Legislature Adjourns Special Session 2015B Sine Die With No Resolution or Session Extension on Congressional Redistricting
Aug 21, 2015
With minutes to go before the scheduled end of Special Session 2015B at noon today, August 21, 2015, Florida legislators had still not come to any agreement or solutions on Congressional redistricting as mandated by the Florida Supreme Court.
Last minute talks between the two chambers broke down late this morning after the Florida House of Representatives rejected a Senate proposal to extend the Special Session until next Tuesday.
Both the House and Senate have now adjourned Sine Die, meaning neither will hold any further meetings relating to Special Session 2015B.
Senate President Andy Gardiner said during this morning’s Senate meeting that, if no action is taken, the Congressional districts in question will be redrawn by the court.
A third Special Session on redrawing Florida’s Senate districts is scheduled to begin on October 19, 2015 and run through November 6.
The Florida Legislature’s first Interim Committee Week of the 2016 Session is scheduled for September 14-18, although meetings will not begin until September 16.
