Florida Insurance Consumer Advocate Robin Westcott Releases Personal Injury Protection Working Group Report
Dec 15, 2011
Florida Insurance Consumer Advocate Robin Smith Westcott presented the final report from her Personal Injury Protection (“PIP”) Working Group (“Working Group”) to the Florida House and Senate leadership today, December 15, 2011.
This past fall, Ms. Westcott had assembled the Working Group at the request of Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater to address the skyrocketing cost of PIP insurance coverage to Florida consumers. The Working Group meetings yielded the data presented in today’s report, the goal of which is to assist legislative leaders during the upcoming session in forming policies that are in the best interest of Florida’s insurance consumers.
“Florida insurance consumers are at their breaking point as they continue to see their auto insurance rates climb year after year,” Ms. Westcott explained. “Any policy solution on the table this Legislative Session must include relief in the form of cost-savings for Florida’s consumers.”
The Working Group was composed of elected officials, consumer advocates, law enforcement officials, insurance regulators, members of the insurance industry, medical providers, attorneys and other professionals who have knowledge of the benefits and challenges of Florida’s No-Fault system.
