Florida Governor Declares State of Emergency Due to Hurricane Ida Threat, November 9

Governor Charlie Crist declared a “State of Emergency” today, Monday, November 9, due to the possibility of Hurricane Ida impacting the State of Florida. The Governor’s Executive Order is attached.

The declaration puts into effect policies and practices that have been enacted to deal with such natural disasters.

The Florida State Emergency Operations Center in Tallahassee continues to monitor Ida through the State’s Watch Office and the Meteorology Unit.

Florida officials are continuing to participate in conference calls with county emergency management officials and state partners in Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia. Contact is being maintained with partners at the Federal Emergency Management Agency and officials will continue to coordinate through the duration of this event.

State Emergency Response Team Regional Coordinators, who are located throughout Florida, will continue coordinating with local officials. State emergency management team members have been identified and are prepared to deploy as needed if Ida impacts Florida.

Preliminary Damage Assessment teams have been identified to assess impacted areas as necessary.

Emergency management officials from throughout the State met via teleconference this morning to assess the situation. The Florida Department of Emergency Management has advised that it will issue public Ida updates as necessary.
