Florida Division of Emergency Management’s Hurricane Loss Mitigation Advisory Council To Promulgate Competitive Solicitation for Residential Mitigation Retrofit Projects and Public Outreach

Apr 30, 2012

The Florida Division of Emergency Management’s Hurricane Loss Mitigation Advisory Council (“Council”) met in Tallahassee today, April 30, 2012, pursuant to section 215.559, F.S.

The Council discussed a request for proposal (“RFP”) for entities to apply for public outreach contracts and residential mitigation retrofit projects directed at Florida homeowners, local governments and the construction industry.  The 2012-2013 fiscal year budget for these programs is approximately $2,575,000.

The RFP is scheduled for publication on May 11, 2012.  Once it is released, contact with the Division of Emergency Management officials about it will be prohibited except through their procurement team.  The bidding process is expected to proceed quickly, with final results to be determined on June 25, 2012.

The Council will hold another meeting during mid-July to discuss accountability processes for the existing programs, as well as those that are selected through the RFP, in order to ensure the best use of funds.  To view the various existing programs, click here.

They also plan to discuss a possible role for the Council relating to the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation Form OIR-1802, also known as the Uniform Mitigation Verification Form.

The meeting adjourned following these discussions.
