FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION TO HOLD WORKSHOPS ON GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS REDUCTION

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (“FDEP”) Division of Air Resource Management will be holding the following workshops on August 23, 2007:

Location:       3800 Commonwealth Boulevard
                     Carr Building, Room 170
                     Tallahassee, Florida

• 9:00 am      Adopting California’s Motor Vehicle Emissions Standards

• FDEP is initiating rulemaking to adopt the California emissions standards for new motor vehicles pursuant to § 177 of the Federal Clean Air Act;

• FDEP proposes to create new Rule Chapter 62-285, F.A.C., “Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction” and develop new Rule 62-285.400, F.A.C., “Adoption of California Motor Vehicle Emissions Standards” to accomplish this purpose;

• 10:30 am    Heavy-Duty Diesel Vehicle Idling Reduction

• FDEP is initiating rulemaking to adopt measures to reduce long-duration diesel engine idling;

• FDEP proposes to create new Rule Chapter 62-285, F.A.C., “Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction” and develop new Rule 62-285.420, F.A.C., “Heavy-Duty Vehicle Idling Reduction” to accomplish this purpose.

FDEP will not be offering any rule proposals at these workshops–the purpose of these workshops is to grant an opportunity for interested persons to provide comments and recommendations to FDEP at the outset of the proposed rule development projects.
