Florida Citizens Property Insurance Announces Appointment of Juan Cocuy to Board of Governors

Citizens Property Insurance Corporation (“Citizens”) announced today, April 4, 2013, that Juan Cocuy has been appointed to its Board of Governors by Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater.
Mr. Cocuy, who has an extensive background as a senior audit manager, is currently the managing shareholder of an accounting, tax and business consulting firm in Wellington, Florida.

CITIZENS ANNOUNCES NEW BOARD MEMBER
TALLAHASSEE, FL – Citizens Property Insurance Corp. on Thursday announced the appointment of Juan Cocuy to its Board of Governors following his selection by Florida’s Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater to fill a vacancy on the eight-member board.
Cocuy replaces Nancy Baily, who resigned earlier this year. His term begins immediately and will run through July 31, 2014.
Cocuy, 54, is the managing shareholder of Cocuy, Burns & Co., P.A., a Wellington, Fla.-based accounting, tax and business consulting firm. His professional background also includes a 10-year stint as a senior audit manager at Ernst & Young LLP, where he managed audits of large clients in a variety of business sectors including health care, high-tech, manufacturing, real estate, non-profit, government and employee benefit plans.
“Juan has the financial and accounting experience needed to keep Citizens accountable for the dollars it deploys on behalf of its policyholders and the taxpayers of this state,” CFO Jeff Atwater said. “His more than 25 years of business leadership will be a valued addition to the Board of Governors.”
Cocuy is a member of the American and Florida Institutes of Certified Public Accountants. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration/Accounting from the University of South Florida in Tampa.
A native of Colombia, he serves as a board member of the Health Care District of Palm Beach County, the Boys and Girls Club of Palm Beach County and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Palm Beach County.
“I am honored and excited to be appointed to the board of governors by CFO Atwater,” Cocuy said. “I hope that I can bring my skills and financial expertise to Citizens in a way that helps us to accomplish our mission.”
