FEDC Inside Track for Legislative Affairs: Joint Budget Conference Committee Meetings April 17-22

Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio and Policy and Budget Council Chairman Ray Sansom announced today, April 17, 2008, that the Joint Budget Conference Committee (“JBCC”) chairs received their budget allocations. 

JBCC meetings begin today at 5:00 p.m., April 17 and continue until Tuesday, April 22 at 6:00 p.m.  At that time, all unresolved issues will be moved to the presiding officers.

The Florida House and Senate issued their respective appointments to the JBCC, which are listed below.

JBCC members are appointed by the House Speaker and the Senate President for the purpose of resolving differences on specific legislation.  A majority of the members of the Committee from each chamber must agree before a conference committee report may be submitted to the Senate and the House.  Neither chamber is obligated to accept the report, but usually does, since the alternative could be the failure of the legislation for that session.  Amendments may not be offered to the conference report and the report must be accepted or rejected in its entirety.
