TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Gov. Charlie Crist has accepted the resignations of two Florida Supreme Court justices.
Crist did it Wednesday after a delay of two months for Justice Kenneth Bell and more than three months for Justice Raoul Cantero.
In the interim, the terms of three Judicial Nominating Commission members, appointed by former Gov. Jeb Bush, expired. That allowed Crist to put more of his own appointees on the nine-member panel. It must recommend at least three nominees for each vacancy.
The commission has only 30 days to make its recommendations once the resignations are accepted, hence the delay.
