Commissioner McCarty Subpoenas State Farm For Public Hearing On Policies And Rates

The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (“OIR”) has issued two subpoenas for a public hearing on policies and rates, respectively, to State Farm Florida Insurance Company and State Farm Florida Fire and Casualty Insurance Company.  The subpoenas direct the two State Farm Florida subsidiaries to appear in a public hearing on rates and policies on August 14, 2007 in Tallahassee.

Commissioner McCarty Subpoenas State Farm For Public Hearing On Policies And Rates

TALLAHASSEE (08/07/2007) – Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty issued subpoenas to State Farm Florida Insurance Company and State Farm Florida Fire and Casualty Insurance Company late last month directing the two Florida subsidiaries to appear in a public hearing in Tallahassee. The subpoenas served on State Farm cite their recently filed non-renewal plans, State Farm’s decision to withdraw from condominium business in Florida and the impact these decisions may have on State Farm’s rates.

The public hearing is scheduled to be held at the Larson Building, 200 East Gaines Street, Room 116, in Tallahassee on August 14 at 9:30 a.m.

In 2005, the Legislature passed a law requiring the Office of Insurance Regulation to hold a public hearing concerning any residential rate filing that would increase policyholders’ premium by a statewide average exceeding 15 percent.

The hearing is open to the public, and input from interested parties is welcomed.  The hearing will be taped by the Florida Channel and video will be available online shortly after the hearing at http://www.floir.com/pcfr/RateHearingVideo.htm.
