Commissioner McCarty Has Expanded The Length And Scope Of State Farm’s Public Hearing

Sep 7, 2007

The following information was recently released by the Office of Insurance Regulation regarding State Farm Florida Insurance Company, State Farm Florida Fire and Casualty Insurance Company and State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company:

TALLAHASSEE (09/07/2007) – Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty has expanded the Office’s review of State Farm Florida Insurance Company, State Farm Florida Fire and Casualty Insurance Company and State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company.  The first subpoenas were sent last month requiring the officials to appear and discuss their recently filed non-renewal plans, multi-lines discounts, State Farm’s decision to withdraw from the condominium business in Florida, and the impact these decisions may have on State Farm’s rates.

Based on an extensive review of the State Farm documents submitted to the Office, a decision has been made to expand the scope of the review and the length of the public hearing.

The public hearing is now scheduled to be held at the Senate Office Building, Room 401, at the Capitol on November 14th and 15th from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The hearing is open to the public, and input from interested parties is welcomed.  The hearing will be taped by the Florida Channel and video will be available online shortly after the hearing at: http://www.floir.com/pcfr/RateHearingVideo.htm#OtherHearings <http://www.floir.com/pcfr/RateHearingVideo.htm> . Those unable to attend the public hearing are welcome to forward comments to the Office at ratehearings@fldfs.com <mailto:ratehearings@fldfs.com> .  The subject lines of the emails should read “State Farm Hearing.”
