Comments Due by August 31, 2011 on State of Washington Rulemaking Relating to Health Insurance Grievance and Appeal Process Compliance Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010

To comply with requirements under the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010, the Washington State Insurance Department has initiated rulemaking relating to the consumer grievance and appeal process requirements for health carriers and health plans.
This action is designed to align Chapter 284-43 of the Washington Administrative Code with the federal requirements, which requires carriers and plans to provide both internal and external appeal processes for the purpose of consistency and consumer protection.
