ChildNet agrees to pay $2 million in sex abuse lawsuit
The nonprofit agency responsible for managing Broward County’s child welfare system has agreed to pay $2 million to settle a lawsuit accusing the organization of failing to protect two young girls from sexual abuse by their mother.
The girls’ attorneys allege ChildNet negligently sought to reunite them with their mother after they had been removed from their parents’ custody in September 2003 by a family court judge. ChildNet insisted on allowing the mother unsupervised visitation, exposing the girls, then ages 4 and 5, to sexual abuse, said Joel Fass, the girls’ lead attorney.
