In South Florida Business and Wealth Magazine’s “Ultimate Court of Recognition,” veteran lawyer Mike Colodny won the 2015 “Insurance” category at this week’s annual “Leaders in Law” awards, which drew an estimated 500 South Florida legal professionals to the toney Dania Beach event.
Mr. Colodny is the founder and managing partner of Colodny Fass, a law and lobbying firm that recently marked its 40th anniversary and built an insurance regulatory practice that has earned the firm a “go-to” national reputation in the insurance industry.

Visual recognition of Mr. Colodny, whose formative years in practice were shaped by his public service as the four-term Mayor of North Miami, elicited cheers from the packed room as he was called to accept his award.
The former General Counsel of Florida’s Residential Property and Casualty Joint Underwriting Association and its successor, Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, Mr. Colodny was instrumental in negotiating several billion dollars in catastrophe claims funding, thereby assuring the organizations’ ability to serve policyholders in the wake of a major hurricane. He also handles financial, real estate and other banking-related transactions.
