Citizens Property Insurance Corporation Consumer Services Committee Meeting: August 27
Aug 31, 2009
The Citizens Property Insurance Corporation (“Citizens”) Consumer Services Committee met on August 27, 2009. The agenda included a legislative briefing and updates on Citizens’ ongoing efforts to improve customer service.
Legislative Update
A legislative update provided by Citizens’ Director of Legislative and External Affairs Christine Turner Ashburn focused on the Citizens-related impacts of House Bill 1495. Ms. Ashburn also provided a spreadsheet of specific actions being taken by Citizens to implement various aspects of HB 1495 and other legislation passed during 2009. Public Outreach and Education
Attendance at Quarterly Policyholder Forums topped 1,400 during 2008, but dwindled substantially during 2009. Because of this and budget constraints, no second quarter forum was held, however, a third quarter forum will be scheduled.
Complaints about Citizens that are directed to either its Executive Office or the Florida Legislature are handled by its Public Outreach and Education Department. These types of communications also decreased during the third quarter, which was attributed to the mitigating effect of better educational outreach and customer service.
Citizens’ Call Center Report
The documented June 2009 increase in calls regarding policy cancellations due to Citizens’ wind-only policy revisions was anticipated. These policies also are being transitioned to a new Web-based self-service interactive system called “Manage myPolicy,” which will enable customers to make electronic payments, access policy documents, elect to receive Citizens electronic communication and track their claims on-line. Click here to view the Manage myPolicy portal, which is active, but not yet being marketed.
