Citizens Market Accountability Advisory Committee Meeting 3/07/2006
Jan 4, 2007
The Citizens Market Accountability Advisory Committee (“MAAC”) meeting was held on March 2, 2006 and presided over by new Chairman Andy Martinez.
Two main topics were discussed:
1. MAAC’s brochure to consumers; and
2. The agenda for future meetings.
Susanne Murphy, Corporate Counsel for Citizens, is managing production and distribution of MAAC’s brochure to be sent to consumers. She asked the MAAC members to review and provide comments regarding the consumer education brochure. The brochure is in a booklet-type format and will have inserts. The Committee discussed having agents help distribute the information in order to ensure that the consumers will actually read them. Ms. Murphy will have 800,000 brochures printed and her goal is to have them distributed in June. We will provide a draft copy of the brochure once it becomes available.
Regarding future meetings, Bob Ricker, President and Executive Director of Citizens, proposed a discussion of depopulation, including the preparation of a presentation on the takeout process. It was suggested that special emphasis should be directed to reinsurers, given the significance of their importance in the process. After the storms of 2004 and 2005, and changes in catastrophe modeling for hurricanes, reinsurers have less capacity which may ultimately affect the takeout process.
Future Board Meetings: March 30th in Orlando
April 27th; location TBA
