Citizens Claims Committee Meeting Report: December 8

On Monday, December 08, 2008, the Citizens Property Insurance Corporation (“Citizens”) Claims Committee (“Committee”) met to approve the Independent Adjuster Request for Proposal (“RFP”) Rebid and receive updates on 2004-2005 reopened claims, claims staffing, and the Key Performance Indicators (“KPI”) Report. Committee Chairman Earl Horton called the meeting to order with Committee members Carol Everhart, Carlos Lacasa, Jon Palmquist and Richard Lydecker in attendance. Also in attendance were Yong Gilroy and other Citizens staff.
Independent Adjusters for Non-Catastrophe and Catastrophe Claims RFP Rebid

After discussion on RFP evaluation methodologies, the Committee approved the following resolutions for adoption by the Board of Governors:
- The top 30-ranked firms may enter into contracts with Citizens for a three and a half-year period with one two-year renewal period
- Officers designated by Citizens’ President may be given authorization to execute contracts with approved firms
2004-2005 Re-opened Claims
Mr. Gilroy updated Committee members on open claims from the 2004-2005 hurricane season. As of November 25, 2008, the total number of open or re-opened pending claims was 2,347. Of those claims, 354 were opened in 2008. 306,888 claims arising from the 2004-2005 hurricane season have been closed to date.

Claims Staffing
Mr. Gilroy reported that the Claims Department has added a Director of Operations, and is currently looking for a Director of the Litigation Dispute Claims Unit, Director of Catastrophe Operations, and two Property Claims Managers.
KPI Report
The KPI report was given by Mr. Gilroy. In October 2008, a total of 4,385 claims were received. Of that number, 4,143 were closed. Currently, there are 7,617 open claims and 6,123 re-opened claims pending. To view the KPI report, click here.
