CFO, Legislators Discuss My Safe Florida Home Bills
Apr 7, 2009
Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink, State Senator Charlie Justice, State Senator Garrett Richter, State Representative Alan Hays, and State Representative Bryan Nelson held a press conference today, April 7, 2009, to discuss the importance and success of the My Safe Florida Home (“MSFH”) mitigation program in Florida.
CFO Sink opened the press conference by noting that MSFH is one of the “smartest” investments by the State, and “makes too much sense” to not renew it.
In her remarks, she thanked the Florida House for its bill, House Bill 1495, an omnibus insurance package that provides funding for MSFH by allocating monies from a proposed 10 percent Citizens rate increase, which is projected to equate to approximately $26 million.
She encouraged the Senate to re-evaluate its related proposal, Senate Bill 2078, which was passed unanimously by the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee on April 6.
Other My Safe Florida Home-related bills progressing through the legislative process include:
- SB 2314 relating to Affordable Housing/Persons With Special Needs by the Senate Committee on Community Affairs
- CS/HB 1009 relating to Affordable Housing by State Representative Yolly Roberson
