Florida Commissioner McCarty Touts State Regulation Before Congress

Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty championed flexible state insurance regulation and warned against “one-size-fits-all” bank-like regulation for insurers in recent testimony before the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives in Washington, D.C., on both domestic and international insurance issues.  Amy O’Connor reports for Insurance Journal.

 

Uber wants a seat at the special session

Lawmakers will return to the Capitol soon in “special session” to write a budget for next year, but Uber also wants them to squeeze in a little time for their legislation, the Tampa Tribune’s James Rosica reports. 

 

Florida Governor Rick Scott to meet with top U.S. Health and Human Services official

Republican Governor Rick Scott will meet with U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell on Wednesday to discuss the future of an important hospital funding program, his office said.  The Bradenton Herald reports.

 

Governor Scott officially convenes commission on hospital spending

On Tuesday, Scott signed an executive order creating a new commission to explore the issue. In addition to investigating outcomes at taxpayer-supported hospitals, the working group will examine executive compensation and spending on lobbyists, advertising and political campaigns.  Kathleen McGrory reports for the Tampa Bay Times.
