Florida Bans Price Optimization; Insurers Question Definition 

A memorandum released last week by Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty warning insurers in the state not to use price optimization in rating has gotten cheers from a consumer advocate group and jeers from an insurance industry trade association that says the definition of the practice used is too vague, Insurance Journal’s Amy O’Conner reports.

 

31 Charged in Insurance Fraud Sweep:  Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office

A massive insurance fraud sweep has resulted in the arrests of 31 people, most notably a public adjuster already charged in another fraud case, the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.  NBC Miami reports.

Jackson hospital blasts Florida health department over trauma-center application

After the Florida Department of Health denied Jackson Health System its bid for a trauma unit in South Miami-Dade April 30, Jackson is fighting back, saying that the department changed the requirements of the application beyond what is outlined in state law, leaving the hospital in a “guessing game.”  The Miami Herald’s Patricia Mazzei reports via the “Naked Politics” blog.

Benjamin Lawsky will step down next month as New York’s top bank regulator after four years, during which he threatened to take away the U.S. charters of some of the world’s biggest banks and collected billions of dollars in penalties by being the squeaky wheel in global bank settlements, Bloomberg’s Greg Farrell reports via Insurance Journal.

 

Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corp. Class Action Members Owed $1,640
