11:00 a.m.–OIR Proposed Rule Hearing.  Tallahassee, Florida.  Proposed amendments to Rule 69D-2.005, “Compliance and Enforcement,” would clarify the Rule, which provides that the OIR “shall” conduct audits to determine insurance company compliance with anti-fraud laws and take appropriate action against insurers for failure to comply.  The amendment would change “shall” to “may” to comply with s.624.307, F.S., and would clarify that the Florida Department of Financial Services has the authority to take action for failure to comply.  To view the hearing notice, click here

    Universal Property & Casualty Writes First Homeowners Policy in Pennsylvania

    Ft. Lauderdale-based Universal Insurance Holdings Inc. announced that the Pennsylvania Insurance Department has approved the homeowners insurance rates and forms of its wholly-owned subsidiary, Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company (UPCIC), and that UPCIC has subsequently written its first homeowners insurance policy in Pennsylvania, Insurance Journal reports.

    Renters get 30 days to get out under new Florida law

    Among the 17 bills signed by Governor Rick Scott on Tuesday was HB 779, which protect renters in foreclosed homes from swift evictions. Under the bill, unanimously approved in both chambers, tenants renting a foreclosed home that is sold to a new owner must be given at least 30 days to vacate the residence.  SunshineStateNews.com notes the “Post on Politics” blog.

     

    Consumer advocates chide Florida congressional delegation over payday loans
