    Miami judge declares Florida workers comp law unconstitutional

    A Miami-Dade judge struck a blow Wednesday against Florida’s workers’ comp law, which was already under attack on several fronts.  The Miami Herald’s Carol Marbin Miller reports via the Bradenton Herald.

     

    Lloyd’s-backed flood insurer suspends writing new policies in Tampa Bay area

    Tampa Bay area residents seeking cheaper flood insurance options have lost one of their lifelines.  At least temporarily, Tampa Bay Times’ Jeff Harrington reports.

     

    Hillsborough’s try at Uber and Lyft compromise sets $30 minimum fare

    The agency that regulates cabs and limos in Hillsborough County made its first attempt Wednesday to compromise with ride-sharing companies Lyft and Uber, which have been operating illegally for months as they expand here, Tampa Bay Times’ Caitlin Johnston reports.

     

    Governor Scott approves new congressional map

    Florida Governor Rick Scott signed off on new maps yesterday that will alter several congressional districts in the state, but it doesn’t appear the changes will end the legal tussle over them, SaintPetersBlog.com’s Peter Schorsch reports.

     

    Judge rules against Governor Scott in records lawsuit

    A Florida judge on Wednesday ruled against Governor Rick Scott in an ongoing lawsuit over whether his administration flouted the state’s public records law, Associated Press’ Gary Fineout reports in SaintPetersBlog.com.

     

    Florida foreclosure rate drops; still leads nation

    Foreclosure activity in Florida has decreased by 30 percent from the same time last year, but the Sunshine State continues to have the nation’s highest foreclosure rate, the Associated Press reports via the Palm Beach Post.

     

    FPL gets OKs for voluntary solar energy fee

    State regulators have approved a program that will allow Florida Power & Light customers to voluntarily chip in $9 a month to help pay for solar-energy projects, despite opposition from two groups that work to expand the use of solar power.  THE NEWS SERVICE OF FLORIDA’s Jim Saunders reports via the Orlando Sentinel’s “Central Florida Political Pulse” blog.

     

    Louisiana State Police Now Selling Crash Photographs Online

    The Louisiana State Police announced it is now possible to order crash photographs online at www.lsp.org, Insurance Journal reports.
