14 Arrested in Miami Assisted Living Facility Insurance Fraud Scheme

A year-long Investigation led by Insurance Fraud Investigators with the Florida Department of Financial Services has ended with 14 Arrests of Assisted Living Facility Owners in the Miami Area, according to a Statement by Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater.  Insurance Journal reports.

 

Florida Supreme Court Rejects Massive Expansion of Slot Machines

In a Major Defeat for Counties that wanted to Authorize Slot Machines by Referendum, the Florida Supreme Court on Thursday Unanimously Ruled that Florida Counties have no Legal Authority to ask Voters to Approve Slot Machines at existing Pari-Mutuel Race Tracks or Jai-Alai Frontons without Constitutional or Legislative Approval.  The Miami Herald’s Mary Ellen Klas and Jeremy Wallace report via the Tampa Bay Times.

Judge allows Alabama Workers’ Comp Law to Stay in Effect

An Alabama Judge has stayed his Decision that the State’s Workers’ Compensation Law is Unconstitutional because of a Recovery Limit and a Cap on Attorneys’ Fees, as Lawmakers had too little time to address the Issues before their most recent Session ended.  Insurance Journal reports via the PCI SmartBrief.

 

NAIC Hosts Bilateral Dialogue with Bermuda

 

Following the International Insurance Forum, Regulators from the U.S. and Bermuda met for the Fourth Regulatory Dialogue on Insurance. Issues discussed during the Meeting included FinTech, Capital, Taxes, Reinsurance and Work Streams of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors.
