Budget Conference Report Issued; House Juvenile Justice Committee Reviews Blueprint Recommendations

The first week of Florida’s 2008 Regular Legislative Session focused mainly on budget cuts to the fourth quarter of Fiscal Year 2007-2008.

Both the House and the Senate passed their proposed cuts and then briefly met in conference work out their minor differences. 

The Florida House of Representatives delivered the Conference Report for Appropriations Bills HB 7009 and SB 2502 to House and Senate Members on Sunday, March 9 at 9:45 a.m..  The Report must rest for the mandatory 72 hours before a vote may be taken.

This Report includes recommended budget cuts for the last quarter of 2007, however, another budget for 2008 will be released toward the end of the 2008 Legislative Session.

The Special Appropriations Conference Committee Report and the Implementing Special Appropriations Conference Committee Report are attached for your review.

 

House Juvenile Justice Committee–Week of March 4, 2008

The House Juvenile Justice Committee, chaired  by Representative Mitch Needelman (R-Melbourne) held a workshop on the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (“DJJ”) Blueprint Commission’s Recommendations. The Committee took lengthy public testimony and had in-depth discussions on how to implement the Blueprint Recommendations.

Chairman Needelman said during the meeting that he is committed to implementing every single one of the recommendations.

Department of Juvenile Justice

It is expected that the DJJ will announce the hiring of Rod Love as its new Deputy Secretary this week.

Mr. Love likely will be named as the replacement for Rick Davidson and thus become the second in command under new DJJ Secretary Frank Peterman.
