Broward Days Legislative Advocacy Group Elects Attorney Mike Colodny As Chairman

Mike Colodny, Managing Partner and Founder of Colodny Fass, was elected by the Broward Days Board of Directors as Chairman on August 5, 2013.
“My task is to revitalize and again make relevant the message and advocacy that Broward Days has delivered to our state’s leadership in Tallahassee for over a decade,” Mr. Colodny said.
“Broward Days’ foremost mission is to bring the message of our county’s vast resources and specific needs to Tallahassee, and to provide a productive forum in which our legislative and executive policymakers can see firsthand Broward’s massive economic and cultural development,” Mr. Colodny explained. “From the billions of dollars that flow through Port Everglades, Hollywood-Ft. Lauderdale International Airport and tourism industry, to our state-of-the-art educational, health care and entertainment facilities, the ingredients are on the table for Broward Days to create new enthusiasm, build new constituencies and afford value to its new and long-term sponsors in delivering our message.”

About Mike Colodny
Throughout his career, Mr. Colodny has been active in the community, also serving in public office as a City Councilman and four-term Mayor of the City of North Miami.
He also served the State of Florida as attorney for the President of the Florida Senate, and City Attorney and Special Counsel for various South Florida municipalities. Subsequent to his tenure as an elected official, Mr. Colodny served two terms as President of the North Miami Chamber of Commerce. His dedication to civic matters has earned him numerous awards and recognitions from community and civic organizations, including the Carrie Meek Award by the Miami-Dade County Coalition for Community Education of Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Mr. Colodny’s other community leadership positions in Broward include chairing the Meyerhoff Center Board of Directors. In the past, he has served on the Boards of the Villa Maria Rehabilitation Center and Visions for Victory.
Since, with nearly 40 years of legal experience representing national corporations, banking institutions and insurance companies in corporate matters, regulatory work and lobbying before government agencies and quasi-judicial public boards and commissions. He also handles a variety of commercial and regulatory law, such as mergers and acquisitions, financing and structuring, regulatory compliance, insolvencies and liquidations, and real estate.
As the former outside General Counsel over the course of 15 years for the Florida Residential Property and Casualty Joint Underwriting Association and its successor, Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, Mr. Colodny was instrumental in negotiating several billion dollars in lines of credit and catastrophe bonding for Citizens’ catastrophe claims funding during that time. Since, he has been involved in the financing and financial and corporate structuring of many private property and casualty insurance entities.
Mr. Colodny, who was instrumental in the original drafting of Florida’s Sunshine Laws, also organized workshops on that and other topics for Broward Days members prior to their annual trip to Tallahassee to lobby for beneficial Broward legislation. Working closely with Florida’s then-Senate President to effect a major overhaul of the Legislature’s ethics guidelines, he facilitated Broward Days workshops to get member feedback and participation on the issue.
Recognized by Chambers and Partners, a worldwide attorney ranking resource, Mr. Colodny is “AV” rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
A member of the Florida Bar, he received his Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctor from the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he was recognized by election to the prestigious Florida Blue Key organization, the University of Florida Hall of Fame and Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.
