Florida’s Citizens Insurance Missing Week’s Worth of Mail, Checks

July 6, 2010

Citizens Property Insurance has learned that some of its mail has been fraudulently forwarded to another address, raising the possibility some customer payments may have been lost.

Citizens said it was informed by the U.S. Postal Service that mail addressed to it at 6676 Corporate Center Parkway, Jacksonville, 32216, might have been redirected to another location on or about June 24, 2010 through June 29, 2010.

The redirection apparently occurred because an unauthorized change of address form had been filed with the post office by an unknown person.

Citizens is asking any policyholders who mailed a payment between June 14 and June 28 to contact its hotline 1-888-685-1555. Customers reaching the line after hours are urged to leave a voicemail with their name, policy number and a return telephone number.

Customers who have had checks to Citizens cashed during the period June 14 through June 28 should obtain a copy of the check front and back. Customers whose checks have not yet been cashed should call to confirm Citizens received the payment.

Should a stop payment order be necessary, Citizens said it will reimburse policyholders.
