Feb 28, 2012
The Office of North Carolina Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Wayne Goodwin issued the following news release on February 27, 2012:
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Wayne Goodwin announced on February 27, 2012 that the 2012 North Carolina Residential Code will be available online on the International Code Council’s website by 2 p.m., February 28, 2012.
Links to the code book and a statement pertaining to the Code Officials Qualifications Board will also be posted prominently on the home page of the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal website.
In accordance with Session Law 2011-269, the mandatory enforcement date for the 2012 N.C. Residential Code is March 1, 2012. However, due to unexpected delays in the final adoption of the code, printed versions will not be available by March 1.
“Through cooperation with the publisher, we are working to expedite the printing process,” said Goodwin. “In the meantime, and specifically because of my personal intervention on behalf of our state with the International Code Council, the 2012 Residential Code will be made available online, at no cost. I am pleased we came to this solution to ensure a smooth transition to the new code. There is no need and no justification for jurisdictions to delay the issuance of building permits, as the 2012 N.C. Residential Code will be readily available prior to its March 1 effective date.”
