A 1995 Honda Civic was the most stolen car last year in the United States, according to a study released today.

But if you live in Florida, another Honda — a 1994 Honda Accord — was the most stolen, the National Insurance Crime Bureau said in its report. “Hot Wheels 2008.”

The stolen car list is dominated by car and trucks that have sold well during the last few years. Besides the Hondas, such models as Toyota Camry, the Toyota Corolla, and pickups like the Ford F-150 were among the most popular with car thieves.

Older model cars also are popular with criminals because there often is a market for their parts, the report says.

The good news, however, is that overall car thefts likely will be down almost 9 percent in 2007, according to preliminary FBI data.

The report also looked at the hot spots for car thieves. Nationally, Modesto, Calif., was the most popular metro area for vehicle thefts. In Florida, the Miami- Fort Lauderdale area was the hottest spot to get your car stolen, ranking 27th nationally.
